More great news about Can't Stop the Serenity in Seattle! And an updated Raffle prize list!

Emerald City Comicon is offering a very special prize this year, and you don't even need to buy a raffle ticket to win!
All CSTS Seattle ticket holders will be entered in a drawing to win two weekend passes to Emerald City Comicon 2012 and an exclusive backstage meet-and-greet with one of the media guests (for the winner and a guest)!

The value of the passes alone is a huge donation, but the meet-and-greet opportunity is above and beyond the call of generosity. The meet-and-greet is exactly what it says: exclusive. It will be almost private access to the star (TBD) and an opportunity to take a photo with him/her and get something signed.

The raffle is one of the most anticipated elements of Can't Stop the Serenity. Companies and individuals support our cause by donating all kinds of great things. We separate those items into about 6-10 raffle packs (depending on how many items we get). In front of each pack is a list of what's inside and a little bucket. If you want to try to win that raffle pack, you may drop as many raffle tickets as you want into its bucket. The more tickets you put in a single bucket, the more chances you have to win!

Immediately following the screening of Serenity, we will draw for the raffle winners and call out the numbers on the raffle tickets. You must be present to win. If your number matches, you get to walk away with all that great swag.

We will also be having an extra-special raffle pack with the primo goodies in it for the event ticket holders. We will draw that winner after the live music. (See
Events page for details.) Again, you must be present to win.

Raffle tickets cost $1 each and will be available for sale here online and on the day of the event. You can purchase as many as you want after seeing the merchandise.

If you are interested in donating to the raffle, please contact us at info [at] cstsseattle [dot] org.

In addition to the raffle, we have some really top-notch swag this year that will be auctioned off. Prepurchased raffle tickets not used in any raffle baskets can be used at their face value ($1 each) for auction items. In other words, if you buy a raffle ticket and would rather use it for an auction item, you may do so if you win the auction and the ticket is intact (you hold both portions of the ticket).

Some of the shiny swag available this year in raffles and auctions is listed here (in no particular order) (donor in parentheses):

MORE INFO FOR THE CURIOUS:

Can't Stop the Serenity Global: CSTS is a unique opportunity to indulge your geeky side while doing some good! Since 2006, fans have organized screenings of Joss Whedon's Serenity to raise funds and awareness to support Equality Now in their work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world.

Equality Now: Equality Now was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses.

CSTS Seattle - Art Contest - CLOSED - Thanks to all the wonderful artists who participated!

It's that time of year again. CSTS events are popping up all over the place, and we are no exception. This year's CSTS event in Seattle will be on Saturday, September 17. (Yes, in September!) We'll be back at MOHAI, the Museum of History and Industry, for what might be their last year in that location.

We had wonderful art from a local artist for our CSTS event last year, and we want more this year. We need a T-shirt design and a ticket design. The same artist need not design both (we can have TWO winners this year!).

Each T-shirt design must meet the following guidelines:

  • 8" x 10"
  • 600 dpi
  • no more than 2 colors that translates well to grayscale
  • suggestion of shirt color, which won't count as one of the 2 colors
  • contains name of the event ("CSTS" or "Can't Stop the Serenity")
  • contains location ("Seattle")
  • contains year ("2011")
  • contains all original art, no official images
  • A bit more about copyright and all that jazz:
    • All artwork you submit must be your own. If you plan to incorporate any stock imagery in your entry, you must have documentation showing that you have permission to use and reproduce it.
    • It should go without saying, but we'll say it anyway. Don't use copyrighted artwork in your submission.
    • Because this is about Equality Now and Peace in the ‘Verse, there should be no overt violence portrayed within the art.

For the tickets, you may go all out with full color. We should be able to get four tickets off an 8.5" x 11" page with only three cuts (that means each ticket should be exactly 8.5" x 2.75").

All art should be sent to us at info@cstsseattle.org. The format must be PDF, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Photoshop.

The organizing committee for CSTS will choose the winning art.

Selected art will be used in marketing materials, on T-shirts, and anywhere else the Seattle Browncoats desire. Seattle Browncoats will retain ownership of the selected art.

All entries must be received no later than June 1, 2011.

Good luck!

Welcome to Miranda
(just kidding)

The Seattle Browncoats are positively giddy about our presence on the internet, our very own domain and webpage!

The Seattle/Puget Sound-area Firefly fandom has been an active group since before the undeserved cancellation of "Firefly" way back in 2002 ... since then, the community has grown, morphed, and welcomed many fellow Firefly/ Buffy/ Whedon/ Sci-Fi fans into the warm and friendly environs of the "Seattle Browncoats".

We have an active group who regularly posts events and comments at our MeetUp site which can be accessed at:
http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Browncoats/

We hope to encompass this new web presence by including our regular activities, events, shindigs, and postings at this site. But as all things in the 'verse, it is a work in progress. Bear with us as we expand and develop this new presence.

Keep checking back to see what we add!

Serenity Forever/Equality Now 2008!

During the Serenity Forever/Equality Now movie screening - we were fortunate to have not one, but TWO interviews with some fantastic folks who came to our shindig.

The first one was with Jim Granger of Pacific Fen Spotlight -
Pac-Fen Spotlight link. Notice the t-shirt in his opening dialogue? Pretty cunning, dontcha think? Jim also has a few minutes with some of our Browncoats in his Norwescon podcast - #105.

Interview number two is with The Movie Guys - Matt and Scott, who traveled all the way from eastern Washington (Yakima - the Palm Springs of Washington?) to take part in our charity event. The interview from the week of June 22nd is approximately 17 minutes into the podcast but it's worth watching from the beginning for the piece on Roslyn's independent movie theater and the reviews on Get Smart and Don't Mess with Zohan.
